Supplier Quality Engineer
STIHL Inc. has an immediate opening for a Supplier Quality Engineer! As part of our Quality department, you will participate in the application of generally accepted quality assurance methods to analyze tests and inspection results of incoming materials as well as coordinate the resolution of inspection results with correct department or supplier. You will have the opportunity to work among our 1800 employees located in Virginia Beach, VA to maintain the highest standards of quality. STIHL produces various finished products including chain saws, blowers and trimmers. Manufacturing processes include assembly, injection molding and machining. Are you interested in learning more?
Position Responsibilities:
- Participates in the development and initiation of inspection, testing, and evaluation techniques for incoming goods.
- Evaluates techniques and recommends changes. Works with Production, Quality Assurance, Materials and other departments to label, define and enforce quality standards and procedures.
- Reviews and analyzes inspection test results and oversees the disposition of unaccepted items with affected suppliers and companies. Works with Quality Assurance to ensure the consistent application of tests and inspections.
- Analyzes supplier performance both in-house and on supplier premises as required. Applies standard statistical techniques to analyze and evaluate studies, such as APQP, FMEA, Gauge R&R, etc.
- Negotiates with suppliers to find equitable solutions to identified problems.
- Visits supplier locations to evaluate quality capabilities versus STIHL specifications, and quality expectations. To review corrective actions for sustainability, and to assist suppliers in developing sustainable corrective actions, if necessary.
- Answers technical questions regarding commodity quality, long-term feasibility or quality certifications.
- Maintains computerized and manual databanks on procured items to provide resources for purchasing personnel to compare quality issues with price prior to actual procurements
Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related discipline
- 2- 4 years of related experience to Supplier Quality.
- Knowledge of Measurement System Analysis (MSA), gauge usage and selection, gauge R&R, gauge calibration, measuring uncertainty.
- Experience with performance of process capability studies, machine capability studies, machine qualification process, statistical analysis and reporting
- Experience with quality methodologies and problem solving tools - Six Sigma, 8D, PFMEA, Lean Manufacturing, Poke Yoke, etc
- Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), design review, critical to quality characteristics, quality planning, new part approval process (PPAP), product launch/verification/testing.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and related auditing practices.
- Computer Proficient - must be knowledgeable with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and preferably Access.
- Frequent overnight travel by air required, including some international travel. Approximately 15 two to three day trips per year.
- SAP experience preferred, but not required.
