Co-Ops
Engineering Co-Op Program
For engineering students wanting to accelerate in their field, we offer a three-semester Co-Op program with alternating full-time semesters in our Virginia Beach, Virginia facility. The program offers paid, full-time work between $7,500 and $10,000 per semester, as well as paid tuition each semester up to $5,250 per year. We also offer a partially subsidized housing accommodation for out of town students during the work semester.
Engineering students get to work on state-of-the art technologies including: Manufacturing Automation and Robotics, Advanced Engineering Projects, and High Speed, High Volume, High Tolerance Manufacturing. The career potential for Co-Op students is available in one of the following five branches of engineering:
- Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineer
- Mechanical & Process Engineer
- Polymers Process Engineer
- Quality Engineer
- Emissions Engineer
Are You Ready For STIHL?
This program offers alternating semesters with STIHL Inc. and semesters at school over the course of two years. We also may suggest specific courses to be taken within your degree. Although there is no guarantee for future employment, Co-Op students are often the best candidates for open engineering positions at the time of graduation.
First Semester
Starting with an in-depth company introduction, this semester helps you gain practical experience in all departments including:
- Chain Saw & Power-Tool Assembly
- Polymers
- Machining
- Quality Inspection
- Materials Logistics
- Accounting
- Industrial Engineering
This semester culminates in your First Engineering Project
Each semester will conclude with an evaluation—at this point, your specific Co-Op Program Path will be selected.
Second Semester
Practical training within your program path including: manufacturing and mechanical design, process engineering in multiple production areas, polymers engineering technologies, quality assurance methodologies, and product testing, ending with your Second Engineering Project.
