Machine Trade Trainee (Apprentice)

STIHL Inc. has openings for Apprentices to train in a variety of departments at our manufacturing plant in Virginia Beach, VA. You will have the opportunity to perform an assortment of manual and semi-skilled tasks that meet program requirements of Virginia’s registered Apprenticeship Program, including trades of: Mechatronics Technician, Tool & Die Maker, Polymer Technician, Polymer Process Technician, and CNC Machinist.

The online assessment, at the conclusion of the application, will take approximately 20 minutes. A PDF document of information will be available to save or print. All application criteria must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017.

During the course of the program, the Apprentice will:

  • Gain knowledge of the operating procedures in the assigned department. Receive training and instruction on machine operation, quality and production standards, and departmental processes, procedures and goals. Participate in actual departmental operations to the extent that training allows and is feasible.
  • Learn blueprint reading and specifications, using various computer programs, mechanical activities and using mathematical concepts (using metrics) during the course of the department assignment.
  • Communicate the learning that has been obtained through various methods to include written assignments, interviews and oral reports.
  • Participate in related projects as assigned.  May be individual project to show proficiencies, or may be business related departmental project that offers exposure to specific skills or information.
  • Complete related courses of study as required by Program.  Most courses will be completed outside normally assigned work shift.
  • Assume additional related responsibilities as assigned.  

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing environment preferred.
  • May be required to work various shifts and overtime.  (Must be shift flexible and able to work overtime.)
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Basic blueprint and specifications reading ability.
  • Top rated written and practical evaluations from apprenticeship candidate assessment process.
