Supervisor, Quality Systems (Relocate to Virginia Beach)

We are seeking a Quality Engineer to provide advanced product quality planning to support the successful launch of new parts, processes and products.  To plan and coordinate internal activities to assure all components, processes, and products will satisfy technical requirements.  Professional will lead and participate in the development and maintenance of quality initiatives, projects, or certifications essential to the successful operations of STIHL.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides Quality Engineering support to assure all components, processes and products will satisfy technical requirements - Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
  • Supervises assigned quality personnel as required.
  • Serves as technical liaison with STIHL R&D Germany, suppliers and internal production operations to effectively resolve all issues, promote quality, productivity improvements and cost reduction.
  • Performs quality system development in coordination with STIHL D pertaining to work standards, guidelines, programs and special projects.
  • Performs quality audits, FMEA, 8D problem solving, and provides associated training to promote process improvement through the successful application of management and quality tools.
  • Assists in the investigation and corrective action required to resolve customer complaints and related quality issues.


  • BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.  Industrial Engineering, Physics or related will also be considered or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working within a high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Quality Engineering skills related to manufacturing operations, providing budget planning, cost controlling and improvement projects
  • Direct practical work experience with related manufacturing processes such as high volume assembly, plastic injection molding and/or CNC production machining.
  • Technical knowledge of materials, complex tooling and related processing equipment – quality planning, problem solving, material characterization, mechanical inspection and testing (CMM, UTM, Layout Inspection).
  • Skilled experience with basic quality tools – FMEA, APQP, PPAP, 8D, ISO9001 and 5S.
